C2So is a research group at the Ecole Normale Supérieure Lettres et Sciences Humaines. It is part of the Norbert Elias Center (UMR 8562).

Our research is undertaken within the discipline of information and communication sciences, focusing on the relationship between science and society (popularisation and science-related discourses), communication practices in institutions producing, organising, or diffusing knowledge (laboratories, museums and libraries), man-nature relationship, and communication and information technologies and their use.

Lastly, we develop both reflexive and critical theoretical approaches, refined by confrontations with empirical research.

The Ecole Normale Supérieure Lettres et Sciences Humaines (ENS LSH) is one of France’s most prestigious institutions for teaching and research in the social sciences and humanities. In particular, research in the field of communication is carried out by a research team with a high degree of excellence.

The ENS LSH enjoys a reputation in France comparable to that of Ivy League establishments in the US, or Cambridge and Oxford in the UK. Admission to the institution is gained following success in a highly competitive entrance examination. In 2006, over 3000 students applied for the only 114 available places.

Leader in the social sciences and humanities (SSH), the ENS LSH administers the SSH Division of French National Research Funding Agency. Moreover, as a result of the 2006 call for proposals launched by the French Ministry of Research, the project led by the ENS LSH aiming at the creation of a network of four Institutes of Advanced Studies (IAS) was accepted for funding as the unique one in France in SSH. Excellence, interdisciplinarity and international dimension are the key words describing the Lyon IAS, whose aim is to generate a “scientific innovation tank based upon the concept of a “Europe of knowledge . Finally, the ENS LSH fully subscribes to the principles of the European Charter and Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers.
